The Farm
Olive Oil
Our olives are grown with tender loving care. Situated on the slopes of Yambira Mountains where it is never too hot or too cold, the olives quietly grow and ripen on the branch in a peaceful setting.
At harvest time, we are attentive with the harvesting of the olives. They’re hand-picked to minimise damage and processed within 24 hours to lock in the ultimate freshness and quality.
It is then up to our specialised blender to create our award winning premium oil blend.
We have even thought about the bottles. Glen Donald Estate Bottles are made with the blackest glass to enhance longevity of the oil. Sunlight may be the friend of the olive on the branch but once oil is produced it can drastically shorten the shelf life.
We like to hand fill our bottles so that we can keep a close eye on the final product going into the bottle. We even label those black bottles ourselves like we are giving our own stamp of approval.
We know being the food lovers we are that good quality olive oil is essential to any meal and with well-documented health benefits we encourage everyone to give it a try. You can even take a look at our recipe page for suggested uses, some are from our own kitchen.
All our olive oil is First Cold Pressed to ensure the highest premium oil for our customer’s dining tables. Adding heat at time of pressing while faster can oftentimes destroy the subtle flavours found in quality olive oil. Demand first cold press oil especially when you are using it for salad dressings, you won’t regret it.
The true signature of Glen Donald Estate Premium Olive Oil is that it has a fruity robust flavour with a peppery undertone.
The Olive Grove
The Glen Donald Olive Grove is located in the historic village of Bumbaldry in the Central West farming region of NSW. The unique ecosystem formed at the base of the Yambira Mountain Range creates the perfect environment for our olives to thrive.
The Glen Donald Grove contains a mixed variety of olives including Arbequina, Correggiola, Frantoio, Hardy’s Mammoth, Kalamata, Koroneiki, Leccino, Manzanillo, Picual and Wagga Verdale. All of these varieties are used for Glen Donald Estate Olive Oil products which helps achieve our premium award-winning taste.
The Grove trees are hand pruned annually to create a ‘V’ shape which allows the natural light to filter in to aid the ongoing health of the plants and for the wholesome prevention of disease.
We choose to farm ethically. That means we make ethical choices to use as little chemicals as possible and maximise mother nature’s help and support. We want to do the right thing by our farm, our community and our customers.
Garlic
The planting of Glen Donald Estate’s first commercial, chemical-free garlic crop occurred in the summer of 2013.
Standing by our mission to farm ethically the garlic is planted, harvested and sorted by hand. This care ensures only the highest quality garlic is sent on to our customers.
The garlic varieties grown at Glen Donald Estate consist of Pink Campbell’s, Prinators and Rio De Castro.
Not satisfied with just 3 varieties, we introduced large Russian Garlic known for its roasting ability. These special cloves originated from a shipwreck off the coast of NSW in the 1800’s. The garlic that was onboard washed up on shore and began growing wild in what is now a National Park.
Only a select few growers were given permission to harvest the garlic and we were fortunate to receive some of those propagated bulbs.
If you haven’t tried roasted garlic before, we highly recommend trying Russian Garlic. You won’t be sorry.
